i had this eagle surface grinder in my previous oslo workshop. made by the british company "dronfield" it was and still is a popular machine in the workshop. even though bellows were fitted over the exposed slideways a lot of wear could take place and in the example above the bed was worn to resemble a banana but it was good for small work
Having very little personal experience with surface grinder spindles and bearings would anyone have access to an alternative like the old hand operated Eagle, Superior or Herbert surface grinders who might possibly be able to take some photos or measurements for me to be able to get one made up?

On a visit there I found it outside and when I enquired why it was standing outside, they said it was being scrapped out as the table ways were so worn the table drooped either side of centre.

Before you spend any more time and money i would look at Dronsfield Eagle manual surface grinders (i paid £250 for mine) or Herbert made some small machines. If you have more space a Jones and Shipman 540 is best value. It may take a while for to find one on Ebay that suits your purpose.
