In December of 2018 I purchased a Lucas Dedicated Slabber which is a large chainsaw bar powered by a 23HP Briggs and Stratton Vangard engine and capable of milling a log up to 76' wide and 20' long. This sawmill is very efficient at milling large trees in to nice table tops.
Now things are different. Live edges are in and so are big slabs, so the slabber is on the mill most of the time. The slabber is an attachment that turns the sawhead into a giant 2o hp chainsaw mill, with a maximum cut of 64″ wide. Help. I'm having trouble with the blade of my Lucas slabber rising in the cut. The chain bar ends up bowing substantially in the middle. If I make it through the log it'll drop 20-30 mm. I'm getting about 2.5 meters down a log before its jambed. It only started doing it. The mill rails are running parallel. I've dressed the chain bar rails square.
Haven't used either machine but Dale Taylor (from Tolga) has cut a bit of timber for me. He has a Lucas Mill and a slabber, I can't remember for certain but I think it was the dedicated slabber. Unless you have a steady supply of logs I don't know if it would be worth the outlay to buy a mill. Dale charged me $150 per M3 of log about a year ago.
