TYPES OF GRINDING WHEELS

Indian Standard Coding system of grinding wheel is IS : 551-1954. It provides uniform system of coding of grinding wheels to designate their various characteristics. It gives a general indication of the hardness and grit size of any wheel as compared with another. Coding of a grinding wheel consists of six symbols as described below

safety of operation. Inspect the condition of the grinding stone before use and do not use if any damage is noticed. 5. DO NOT use aluminium oxide wheels when grinding non-ferrous metals such as aluminium or brass. Use silicon carbide wheels (not included) for grinding non-ferrous metals. 6. DO NOT grind any materials containing asbestos. 7.

Chapter 5: Surface Grinder – Manufacturing Processes 4-5

The severity of the grinding operation also influences the choice of grade. Hard grade provide durable wheels for rough grinding such as snagging, while medium and softer grade wheels can be used for precision type operations which are less severe on the wheel. 5. The speed at which the grinding wheel is to be operated often dictates the type ...

Fundamentals of Cutting

A turning operation has to be performed on an aluminum rod of diameter50 mm and length 300mm. The Spindle speed of lathe is given to be 500 RPM. The feed and depth of cut are 0.15mm/rev and 0.3 mm respectively. Draw a neat sketch of the turning operation described above. Find out the cutting speed in mm/s and the volumetric material removal ...

Rake Angle - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics

The rake angles usually are negative at about –60°. The wheel surface speed in conventional grinding is high compared to other operations, and it is typically from 20 to 45 m/s. However, in high-speed grinding, the speed can reach up to 150 m/s [23]. In grinding, each abrasive works as an individual cutter, as in single-point machining.

Machining - Material removal processes

Machining is a term used to describe a variety of material removal processes in which a cutting tool removes unwanted material from a workpiece to produce the desired shape. The workpiece is typically cut from a larger piece of stock, which is available in a variety of standard shapes, such as flat sheets, solid bars, hollow tubes, and shaped beams.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS - NEMES

first have to be accurately centered by grinding. Rough grinding of the lip is performed manually by holding the cutter against the circumference of the grinding wheel (see Fig. 2). This operation is follow- ed by finish grinding in the machine. The off-center tolerance is ± .0004" which should be checked with a micrometer caliper (see Fig. 3).
